We loved getting mail!
During the last month we participated in the Holiday Card Exchange hosted by Projects By Jen. Each student made a snow globe themed card. We shared where we are from, the average temperature in December, our grade, teacher, and the number of boys vs. girls. Lastly, we shared something interesting about our class. Most students shared that we Mystery Skype and author Skype. We received 28 cards from 17 different states. As we received cards, we located the state on our hallway map (see below). We loved getting mail! Below are pictures of the cards we received from students (ranging from grades 1 -6) around the United States.

Be sure to click on the Kid Blog button to the right to visit and read our blogs. We also participated in a Global Project, One Moment Project. Slides show students/schools from around the world on 12/12/12 @ 12:12. Look for our slide! In math, students have been learning about the attributes of shapes and angles. As a culminating activity, students were asked to choose a project of their choice to demonstrate their understanding of the concepts covered in class. Many chose to create posters, however their means of showing polygons were through drawings, cut-out pictures or generated on a computer. Below are pictures of the finished products. Keelan chose to make a powerpoint. Please take a look.
Inspired by the picture book Perfect Square by Michael Hall, students created a unique piece of art. Following the pattern of the book, students started with a (9 in.) square to cut, rip, tear, etc. and then use the pieces to create their own imaginative picture. Students were engaged and motivated to create and display their works of art. |
