How do you like to spend Literacy Workshop?
Everyday we participate in Literacy Workshop during the school day. This is a time when students work on their individualized literacy needs. This may be in music, math, reading, writing or content areas. Some may attend appointments or work independently on their individualized learning goals. Below you can see students engaged in their learning. Students are planning writing and projects, reading, researching, typing, practicing math facts and even writing a letter to an author. How do you like to spend Literacy Workshop? We are very pleased to welcome Mr. Ferranti, our new co-teacher. Today he jumped right into teaching and getting to know our students. During math his students brought him for a Mill Pond tour, so he can navigate himself around our large building. We are looking forward to getting to know him, and for him to be a part of our learning community.

MOS ~ Geology: Rock DetectivesA representative from the Museum of Science Geology enrichment program visited the fifth grade at Mill Pond. This was a great pre-view for the Terrapins since this will be our next unit of study. Each student was given a rock sample to test and see what kind of rock it was. They observed color, layers, pieces, texture, tested hardness and acidity. We are looking forward to bringing this new knowledge to our class study which will begin after Thanksgiving break. What did you learn about your rock sample? |
