Tonight was Open House for parents of fifth graders at our school. Early in my teaching career it was the night I dreaded. I had to stand in front of a room full of adults, all eyes on me and talk. Butterflies in my stomach and breaking out in red hives I would get through it, but it was not my thing. After 20 years of teaching, I have learned to look forward to and embrace this evening. It is so nice to meet and chat with the loving and caring parents of the students I come to call “my kids”.
I came home tonight and thought about how fortunate I was to have a room full of parents attending this evening. It is so comforting and rewarding to know how invested and supportive our Mill Pond parents are of us teachers. I am happy to say I experienced neither butterflies nor hives, only a smile across my face to reflect my happiness for a successful evening.
Thank you, parents.
