We have been learning about ways to improve and embellish our writing. With the help from author, Lynn Plourde we learned a fun and entertaining way include descriptive adjectives, precise nouns, strong verbs, and alliteration. After watching Lynn Plourde's Word Pictures and Ear Candy videos (click the links to view the videos) students learned to identify word pictures and ear candy and include them in their own writing.
A word picture is when a writer is able to create a picture in the reader's mind with the words they choose.
Ear candy is when words used in the writing sounds good to the ear. Ear candy is created through alliteration, rhyming, and onomatopoeia
Ask your child to find some examples in the books they are reading or maybe you can create some together.
