Over the past month we have been learning about different types of maps (political, landform, time zone, population, region) and how to read them. This week students were challenged to design and draw their own island map. Our classroom cartographers are very creative and accurate in following directions. They should be proud! Sunday comics are an old favorite. So we decided why not try it ourselves. In creating a comic students demonstrated their understanding of how plants need water, sun, carbon dioxide, and chlorophyl to make food during the process of photosynthesis. Botantists at their best! A little Halloween fun with vampire teeth, bloodshot eyeballs and spider rings (not shown).

Creating our own island was fun to express our creativity. I saw many creative and good drawings. The comic strips about photosynthesis was an easy and fun way for people to learn about the process of photosynthesis.

I really enjoyed creating the land form maps ! You could make your very own map and specialize it ! That was probably one of my highlight of the week.

I really like making the maps of our island. But the lines of longitude and latitude were hard. I used my lines to create an exact scale. Making maps of our own island is a fun way to learn about the parts of a map.
