In science, we visited the Jason Digital Mines. We mined minerals, and tested their luster, streak, hardness, and more. In the end, we took a quiz to define what mineral we mined. It was a lot of fun! Written by Caroline W.

I liked when we got to identify the mineral by testing it's luster, hardness, color, streak, and cleavage. i was surprised Diamond was the first mineral we found!

The "mining trip" our class took was very fun! We Mined for minerals at mines all around the world, then defined what they were at the Jason Digital Lab.

This week our class played a game called The Jason Digital mine. I had a lot of fun playing the game. We got to mine minerals and figure out what kind of mineral it was. Some of us also got to play the game on the white boards.

In science class we went to mine minerals on the computers. We went to mines to look for minerals you would click on the mineral to pick it up then go back to the lab to identifi the mineral or minerals, then go mining again for more minerals.

In science this week we explored minerals on Master Mines. You would go mining for a mineral/minerals. Then you would have to identify the mineral by taking different tests like the hardness test, the luster test, the color test, etc. After you tested the mineral in everything you would take the identification test using the results from the different tests you took to find out what your mineral is.

I liked "mining" on the computer. I liked how you could test and see the real properties of the mineral

The annual science showcase was very fun. Many cool projects were there when I went around to look at some other projects. I can't wait to see next year's science showcase!

When Matt Tavvares came to fifth grade I learned a lot. He answered many of my questions about writing and about books. I want to read some of his picture books like Mudball. I can't wait to see another author/illustrator.

In my opinion Master mines was a lot of fun. I really liked how you have to test its streak, color, luster, shape and more to identify the correct mineral.

I really enjoyed having a a author and illustrator come to our school. It really showed me how much time it takes to make a book and how much detail you need to make a book.

I think the technique Matt Tavares used for making things look far is really good.

And it is very useful too. The next time I try to male things look far, I will use this technique. I also liked how he made the audience just little scribbles or dots, because you can't really see their heads.

Science Showcase was fun. I think it can help others find an interesting topic for them to research and help us learn about new things. I did a project about solar flares.

This week in science we mined minerals at Master Mines, an online mining sight. Students were separated into groups to go online and mine minerals and identify their properties. Kids had a lot of fun and it was probably one of their greatest learning game.

On April 2, 2014 a science showcase was held at Mill Pond. Students were to learn or experiment anything related to science and create a poster. Many of the kid's question were unique and some were even on Westborough TV. This will be a tradition that will hopefully go on every year for fifth graders.
