Students had the opportunity to tune into a live webcast with J.K. Rowling, author of the infamous Harry Potter books. Speaking to us from Edinburough, Scotland Ms. Rowling talked about her connection to her characters and how she thinks of them everyday. She read aloud from the first of the books, Harry Potter and the Sorcerer Stone, known in Great Britian as Harry Potter and the Philosopher Stone. It was exciting to hear her read it the way she intended it to be read, and her accent made it seem so realistic. It was a real treat. J.K. just release an adult book and shared, but did not promise, that her next writing project will be a children's book.
You can visit the new on-line world of Harry Potter, Pottersmore. Here, you are sorted into a house and receive a wand especially made for you. Although, I have not visited Scholastic's Pottersmore, it sounds very exciting especially if you are a Harry Potter fan.
I felt priviledged to hear J.K.Rowling speak and read to us. I am thankful for Scholastic and the authors who take on such projects to share, engage and connect with children readers and learners.
