Hey Mr. F
I though it was interesting that the book switched character because bruce would be so bitter with Julianna and would be positive about what bruce thought was bad.
Yes the two points of view were very interesting. Bryce was very matter of fact, while Juli was very descriptive and very sensory in her writing. Juli seemed almost to get too excited about things while Bryce was laying back. Also I noticed that they interpreted the spelling thing very differently - she noticed that his face turned red because he was looking at her (thinking he was embarrassed) when in actuality he was copying off her test (or so he says!!). Stay tuned...
Clearly chapters three through paint quite a picture (so to speak). Bryce is being made out to be a cowardly snake while Juli is brave and kind. Do you think the cutting down of the sycamore plays a more symbolic role in this book? Do you think that Juli will ever get tired of being nice to Bryce?
By the way, we had a lot of pets growing up (dogs, cats, fish, mice, hamsters, guinea pigs, iguanas... but no chickens!) So I can kind of relate to what Juli's house was like. Look forward to your observations!
I think that Juli is brave for standing up to the people that were going to cut down the tree andI I think the Bryces dad is so rude and mean to Juli and her family.
was thinking didn't Bryce just go to see Juli when his granddad was at the house helping the yard.
I know he's trying to hide. Wow I guess I figured where Bryce gets his behavior from - his Dad!! What a jerk! He thinks it's more important to cut your lawn than take care of your brother with an intellectual disability. (by the way we don't use the term "retarded" anymore because it leads to taunts such as "retard" and it oppresses people - so you can tell this book was written a while ago when it was OK to use that term). I think Bryce is at a turning point, don't you?
Well it looks like Bryce's grandad is trying to give some life lessons to both Juli and Bryce while making himself not miss his wife too much. Sometimes the best times you can have is when you are working together with some friends on a project. How do you think Bryce is going to act now that Juli is a little bit colder to him?
I wonder why Julie's parents didn't tell her that the house wasn't there
Pride I think - they didn't want to let on that all of their money was going for uncle David's care.
Well now things are changing while somethings remain the same. Bryce's dad is still unpleasant and unapologetic. I can't wait to see what happens at the fancy sit down dinner with the Bakers! Also what did you think of Bryce's reaction to Garret's "retard" comment? I like the fact he got mad on the inside but he still took the cowardly way out by laughing at the comment. Have you ever said something you didn't mean because you thought it was what the other person wanted to hear? Did it make you mad inside?
I thought Bruce was going to punch Garrett for saying so rude things to Juliana and her uncle David
I thought it was cool to see how the author wrote how Julianna anger when she found out what Bryce was saying.
Well he should have done something! As opposed to just laugh. Reading the next chapter you can tell that Juli's father and mother have a lot to deal with. But it looks like David really likes where he is, and I bet moving him to a different place would be traumatic for him.
So now it looks like Bryce is totally busted. He is really going to have to prove himself in order for Juli to forgive him. Do you think he's up for it?
Well that was quite a dinner. Bryce's dad has some serious issues. Looks like he has some major regrets about quitting music. I'm glad Lynetta told him off after he said he thought the boys were drug dealers. It's still interesting that Juli's chapters are far more vividly told than Byrce's. Maybe that'll flip too? What do you think?
I thought it was good that Lny stunk up to her dad.
I was thinking that the was like flipping the personalities.
Oh my goodness!! Bryce is "head over heels" in love!! Well he has a lot of work to do, don' t you think? I liked the fact the author made it plane in this chapter that the opposite of love is not hate but indifference (not caring one way or another). What do you think is going to happen???
This book was SO GOOD.The best part was how it ended. It was so nice of Bryce to plant the tree for Julianna to climb.
Nice ending. So I guess Bryce isn't such a snake after all. Maybe he need some good influence -like more from his mom and less from his dad. Very nice symbol at the end with Bryce giving something not necessarily to Juli, but maybe to someone like Juli a hundred years from now. True love.
I thought it was cool to see the first picture, then see the second picture.
This book is a nice change of pace. I guess that the fact a kid can fly a plane is a giveaway that this book is a fantasy! The Little Prince is quite different!
